Unlike other iterations of DemoCamp, the Vancouver event covers all industries. Idea people will be presenting innovations on all things ranging from business to charity, high-technology to high-art. The purpose is to encourage a cross-pollination of industries and individuals in hopes that people engaged in unrelated endeavors might provide an enlightening perspective on the presenters concept. There is strength in diversity!
Yes, that's right, we're redefining "Demo", but at the same time, showing a connection between all the bright people across Canada and beyond who are gathering to share cool ideas. wino kredyt mieszkaniowy sprzedam mieszkanie sprzedam bilet
Your concept or idea should be developed enough to support a three minute presentation, but it is not necessary to have a working model to "demo" ... it's the idea that's important! There are three minutes for delivery and three minutes for discussion (or 6 minutes to use however you see fit...previous attendees highly recommend time for interaction, questions, etc.). The time limit is strict so if you take two and a half minutes to setup your laptop, you only get thirty seconds to present (the gong hath no mercy).
Just show up with an idea, write it on the board, and get voted on to be one of the "main" presentations. Every presenter gives a 30 second elevator pitch before voting happens. Attendees vote and the 4 presentations with the most votes get a 6 minute slot.
From Powerpoint Karoake to....well, other cool ideas that you can do in a room with a bunch of creative, interesting people.
From time to time, we might invite/elect/or otherwise select folks to present.
The purpose is not simply to provide critical feedback but also encouragement to the innovators with the courage to get up there. Discuss, ask questions, find the holes, find the strengths...make the ideas better!
And yes, we want feedback on the event as well -- blog it, add notes to the wiki, or you can even go old school and email the mailing list: democampvancouver@googlegroups.com
Ideas are good but made great by their implementation. Abstract, theoretical discussion is encouraged but we hope that people will bring concepts to fruition. At the very least, point people to a link or other place where they can follow up with you and see how the idea is working out, or even better, to get involved.
Currently being held at WorkSpace, at the edge of Gastown, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Approximately every 6 weeks.
