So, What's a BarCamp/DevCamp?
According to the “official” rules, a Barcamp is “an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.”
The basic idea is that the format should be more free form than say, a Code Camp or a TechEd.
It's a type of unconference, "where the content of the sessions is driven and created by the participants, generally day-by-day during the course of the event, rather than by a single organizer, or small group of organizers, in advance."
However, I would like to have some structure and have a few “pre-defined” presentations with extra time allotted for ad-hoc conversations afterwards as well as some sessions that are group/panel discussions.
To me, the real value of attending an in person event is those few minutes at the end of a session where you can personally ask the presenter questions, talk with fellow attendees, and get insights that don't fit on PowerPoint slides.
In short, I'd like to have an event with some structure, but with plenty of time to interact with the presenters and with the other participants.
