Welcome to iDemocracy Camp !

What : iDemocracyCamp is an unconference (what's this?) about enabling citizen awareness and engagement with governments using online and mobile platforms/applications. The goal is to connect researchers, developers, practitioners, citizens and other enthusiasts for a day of intense collaboration and knowledge sharing. Examples of existing platforms/applications are FixOurCity, ObamaCTO, TheyWorkForYou, UK Petitions, JaagoReVoteReport India, AP2009.in and many more.

When : On June 6, 2009 between 9:30am - 1pm

Agenda :

9:30am - 10am        : Introductions

10am - 10:30am      : Brief presentation on current landscape of technology + governance in India and around the world.

10:30am - 11am      : Decide on sessions for the camp

11am - 11:15am      : Break for snacks/tea + Networking

11:15am - 11:55pm : Sessions 1-3 (to be held simultaneously in 3 rooms)

12pm - 12:40pm      : Sessions 4-6

12:45pm - 1pm        : Conclusion

  • Overview of the online democracy landscape in India and around the world
  • Using Open Source, Amazon Web Services and SaaS to put together quick and compelling civic engagement websites

  • Open discussion on key areas to focus over next couple of years
  • Use of online tools for public involvement, citizen participation or citizen engagement in government planning and decision making (e-participation)
  • E-participation (using technology -- especially the Internet -- to broaden and deepen political participation by helping citizens to connect with one another and with their elected representatives and governments)
  • Collaborative problem solving, consensus building and decision making
  • Online voting or e-voting
  • Online dialogue, deliberation and debate
  • Crowdsourcing of the policy making process
  • Online petitions or e-petitions
  • E-rulemaking
  • Online townhall meetings
  • Case studies (what has already worked, what didn't work?)
